Anthropic signed a $10 billion compute deal with a months-old startup. Blackstone is pitching another $36 billion debt package on top. SpaceX reports its first earnings tonight. Bessent said a Hormuz deal could land today or tomorrow.

THE SETUP

Stocks rallied hard today.

Oil dropped sharply on Bessent's Hormuz comments. Palantir had its best day in years. Caterpillar crossed $20 billion in quarterly revenue for the first time.

SpaceX reports after the close tonight. Two stories landed this afternoon that connect every AI financing story of the month into one private company's balance sheet. And Texas just froze data center connections to its grid.

PMD LENS

Anthropic has $46 billion in debt across two Blackstone-led packages. That exceeds most of its disclosed equity rounds. One counterparty is seven months old. One is a Bitcoin miner. The fall IPO filing is the first time the full stack goes on public disclosure.

IN FOCUS

Anthropic Signed a $10B Deal With a 7-Month-Old Startup. Blackstone Wants $36B More.

Anthropic struck a $10 billion computing deal with Volta Infra Holdings. Volta is a months-old infrastructure startup. The contract runs six years. The site holds 133 megawatts of Nvidia's newest Vera Rubin chips. Volta was founded in January by former Brookfield executives. It announced Tuesday it raised $300 million at a $2.4 billion valuation. Its partner is Bitdeer, a Bitcoin miner converting to AI infrastructure.

That is the compute deal. The financing deal is bigger. Blackstone pitched investors on a second debt package of at least $36 billion. This would fund Anthropic's use of Google chips. It would exceed the $35 billion package Apollo and Blackstone closed two months ago. That deal was already one of the biggest private credit transactions ever. Broadcom backstops the senior portions.

Add both packages together. Anthropic now sits on $46 billion in debt. The company raised $65 billion in equity earlier this year. The debt is closing in on the equity. The counterparty range runs from a seven-month-old venture startup to Broadcom. That range is the credit-quality question the market has not yet priced.

Google was one of Anthropic's earliest investors. It now backstops the financing underpinning Anthropic's data centers. Amazon marks its Anthropic stake as one of two paper anchors driving S&P 500 Q2 earnings growth. A source told Bloomberg these structures "create an increasingly interconnected web of dependencies that risks magnifying losses if AI demand fails to live up to expectations."

The Signal to Watch

Whether Blackstone's $36 billion package clears, whether the IPO filing discloses the full stack, and whether a fourth Anthropic compute counterparty surfaces in the next 30 days.

SIGNALS IN MOTION

SIGNAL 1: SpaceX Reports Tonight. Options Price a $225 Billion Swing.

Options traders are pricing roughly a 15% move in SpaceX (SPCX) tonight. That is around $225 billion in market cap either way. Short interest is near record levels at 63% of the free float. Almost no stock is left to borrow. Shorts are sitting on an estimated $18.4 billion in paper gains.

SpaceX is expected to post a Q2 loss on revenue near $7 billion. The lockup on 911.5 million insider shares expires Thursday. Tonight's print clears the way. SpaceX closed above $125 today. Alphabet used a $170.86 June 30 price to mark its stake. Tonight either closes that gap or widens it.

The Signal to Watch

Any print naming Google compute revenue at or above the monthly contracted rate confirms the revenue framework. Thursday's lockup expiration is the next event regardless of the result.

SIGNAL 2: Bessent Said a Hormuz Deal Could Come Today or Tomorrow.

Bessent told reporters a US-Iran deal to reopen Hormuz could land as soon as today or Wednesday. WTI dropped to $76 on the comments. Bessent said prices should fall further when ships stuck in the Gulf can finally exit.

Aramco's CEO said the world has lost more than 2.6 billion barrels of oil since February. He said even if the Strait opened today, it would take 18 months to replenish inventories. Aramco's Q2 production averaged 9.5 million barrels per day versus 12.8 million a year ago.

A ship was struck near Oman again this morning. Gulf oil flows have fallen to roughly 36% of prewar levels. Goldman said barring a deal or major escalation, WTI should trade between $65 and $80.

The Signal to Watch

Any specific reopening announcement this week triggers the 18-month replenishment timeline and a significant price reversal. No deal means the supply-loss anchor holds through September.

SIGNAL 3: Caterpillar Crossed $20 Billion in Revenue. Texas Froze Data Centers.

Caterpillar (CAT) reported Q2 revenue above $20 billion for the first time. Construction equipment sales grew 35%. Power and energy sales grew 17%. Both were driven by data center demand. Caterpillar converted a plant to make turbine engines for data centers and is resuming production of large generators it last made in 2022.

The same day, Texas Governor Abbott froze all new data center grid connections. No new approvals until a full audit is complete. Abbott is running for re-election. Research firm ClearView said there is little political incentive to finish the audit before Election Day in November. Vistra and NRG fell. Off-grid power equipment makers rose.

The Signal to Watch

Any other state governor initiating a similar review converts the Texas pause from a local political story into a national infrastructure constraint.

CAPITAL DISCIPLINE

Anthropic's debt stack now sits at $46 billion. That is closing in on the company's disclosed equity. One counterparty on the newest deal is seven months old. Another is a Bitcoin miner converting from crypto to AI. The senior tranche is backstopped by Broadcom. The specific range of counterparties on a single private company's balance sheet is the specific read on the moment. The fall IPO filing is the first time the full stack goes on public disclosure. Between now and then, the specific gap between what the private market prices the debt at and what the public market will price the equity at is the specific test on the buildout.

PMD REPOSITION

Anthropic's debt stack now exceeds most of its equity rounds. SpaceX reports into the largest short position ever built on a megacap before its first earnings. Hormuz diplomacy is the most specific it has been since the ceasefire collapsed. Texas just paused new data center approvals.

Tonight's SpaceX print, any Hormuz reopening announcement, and whether Blackstone's $36 billion package enters syndication are the three signals that define whether the paper marks hold, whether the energy framework resets, and whether the largest AI debt stack clears before the IPO.
