Treasury Secretary Bessent threatened sanctions on Chinese AI labs for distilling American models. SpaceX set August 4 earnings triggering a 911.5 million share lockup. Apple launches a Klarna-backed device leasing program July 28.
Chip stocks bounced back hard today. The Nasdaq recovered. Goldman warned oil could hit $120 if Hormuz stays shut.
Alphabet (GOOGL), Tesla (TSLA), and IBM (IBM) report tomorrow. Dimon said today he would not buy stocks or Treasurys right now. A fresh wave of tariffs on 60 countries is coming.
The Treasury Secretary just turned an AI training technique into a sanctions threat. Apple fundamentally changed how it sells iPhones. And SpaceX set a date that changes the AI IPO buyer pool entirely.
PMD LENS
Bessent threatened sanctions on Chinese AI labs. Anthropic is meeting IPO investors the same week. The two labs he is defending have their own copyright liability. Anthropic settled a class action for $1.5 billion last month. That is the uncomfortable backdrop for a Treasury Secretary acting as their protector.
Warren Buffett Once Passed on Amazon
"I was too dumb to realize it. I did not think Bezos could succeed on the scale he has."
By the time most people saw what Amazon was doing to retail, it was too late to get in early.
History is offering a second chance.
Mode Mobile is doing to the $1T+ smartphone industry what Amazon did to retail — turning everyday phones into money-making machines.
The traction is already there:
- 490M+ users earning passive income from their phones
- $1B+ saved and earned by users worldwide
- 32,481% revenue growth — Deloitte's #1 fastest-growing software company
- $115M+ in revenue and climbing
People spend 30+ hours a week on their phones. Mode figured out how to monetize that time and pay users directly.
They've secured the $MODE ticker from Nasdaq — signaling plans to go public soon.
Unlike Amazon, you can still get in early…

- CENTCOM carried out its 10th consecutive night of strikes on Iran.
- Dimon: AI will pay off "just not on the timetable you expect."
- Anthropic's $1.5 billion copyright settlement was approved Monday.
- Mediators are reportedly proposing a 10-day ceasefire between the US and Iran.
Bessent Threatened Sanctions on Chinese AI Labs.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent went on Fox Business. He said the US is finding watermarks of American AI models inside Chinese ones. He called it theft. He named the technique: distillation. He said the US has the ability to sanction the labs responsible.
Bessent: "We are finding watermarks of our US large language models on many of the Chinese models, and that's unacceptable."
The evidence behind the claim comes from Anthropic. The company sent a letter to the Senate Banking Committee last month. It alleged Alibaba (BABA) carried out the largest known distillation attack against it on record. That letter is now the basis for a Treasury sanctions threat. A private company's legal complaint just became US foreign policy.
The timing creates real tension. The US and China have AI talks scheduled for September. Bessent will represent the US. He just threatened the people he is about to negotiate with.
Meanwhile, Anthropic paid $1.5 billion to settle a class action from authors who said the company used pirated books to train its models. That settlement was approved Monday. The New York Times is still suing Microsoft (MSFT) and OpenAI for copyright infringement. The labs Bessent is defending have their own legal exposure on nearly the same issue.
Chinese models now account for 45% of US company token use. Moonshot's Kimi K3 outperforms some US benchmarks. Alibaba previewed a new model this week claiming it trails only Anthropic's Fable 5. The capability gap sanctions are supposed to protect is already closing.
The Signal to Watch
A formal Treasury sanctions designation naming a Chinese lab before September converts Bessent's Fox Business appearance into an actual policy event. No designation means it was leverage, not enforcement.
Buffett, Gates and Bezos Quietly Dumping Stocks—Here's Why
The world's wealthiest individuals are making huge moves with their money.
Warren Buffett just liquidated billions of shares. Bill Gates sold 500,000 shares of Microsoft. Jeff Bezos filed to sell Amazon shares worth $4.8 billion.
What is going on? One multi-millionaire believes they are preparing for a catastrophic event. But not a crash, bank run, or recession. It’s something we haven’t seen in America for more than a century.
SIGNAL 1: SpaceX Set August 4 Earnings. 911.5 Million Shares Could Unlock.
SpaceX (SPCX) gained today after setting August 4 as its first earnings date. That date triggers the first lockup expiration. Insiders can sell 20% of their eligible shares two trading days after the report. That is up to 911.5 million shares. An additional 10% unlocks if the stock closes 30% above the IPO price for five of the ten days heading into the report. The threshold is $175.50. SpaceX is nowhere near it.
The stock is down roughly 43% from its all-time closing high. Short sellers hold about a third of the public float.
Alphabet (GOOGL) reports Wednesday. Tesla (TSLA) reports Wednesday. Microsoft, Meta (META), Amazon (AMZN), and Apple (AAPL) report next week. SpaceX reports August 4. The largest IPO in history heads into its first lockup release inside the most concentrated earnings week of the year.
The Signal to Watch
SpaceX closing above $175.50 for five days into August 4 accelerates the unlock from 20% to 30% of the float. Watch the stock price daily between now and then.
SIGNAL 2: Nvidia Entered the CPU Market. Intel Is Up 149% This Year.
Nvidia (NVDA) released new details about its Vera data center CPU. The chips were delivered to OpenAI, Anthropic, and SpaceX in June. Wolfe Research estimated a price of $5,000 per chip. About 1.3 million units are expected to ship this year. Nvidia says Vera delivers 50% better AI agent performance than existing chips.
Intel (INTC) currently holds nearly 67% of the server CPU market. Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) holds about 33%. Intel is up 149% year to date. AMD is up 128%. Nvidia is up 8%. The two worst performers by AI hype are the year's two best chip stocks.
AMD pushed into GPU territory Monday with its Helios rack, naming Microsoft (MSFT) as a buyer. Nvidia pushed into CPU territory with Vera. Both companies invaded each other's core business inside 24 hours.
The Signal to Watch
Any hyperscaler naming Vera CPU deployment above 100,000 units on a Q2 earnings call confirms this is a real share shift, not just a product announcement.
SIGNAL 3: Apple Launches Leasing July 28. The iPhone Hike Comes in September.
Apple (AAPL) is launching Apple Upgrade on July 28. Klarna (KLAR) is the financial backer. Klarna shares jumped sharply on the news. Leases run 24 months for iPhones and Apple Watches. Macs and iPads run 36 months.
The program launches after Apple already raised prices on Macs and iPads. iPhone prices are expected to rise again in September. Apple is simultaneously ending its existing iPhone installment plans.
Apple reclaimed the most valuable US company title last week. This is how it defends that position. Instead of absorbing memory cost into margins, Apple outsources the balance sheet risk to Klarna. The September iPhone hike feels smaller when the monthly payment stays manageable. The customer relationship becomes a subscription, not a purchase.
The Signal to Watch
A second major hardware maker launching a similar lease program confirms the industry is passing memory costs through subscription rather than absorbing them.
Hidden in Tesla's Filing: A $12 Billion "Super Startup"
Pull up Tesla's most recent SEC filing. Page 5.
And you'll see a single line showing $12 billion in revenue from a brand-new "super startup" Elon Musk has been quietly incubating inside Tesla.
This new "super startup" has nothing to do with cars or robots or space or AI…
But it sits at the center of what Blackstone calls "a $23 trillion investment opportunity."
And on July 22, Elon is expected to pull back the curtain and reveal exactly what he's building.
But Adam O'Dell already knows… and he reveals it all in this urgent video.
A formal Treasury sanctions designation before September converts Bessent's threat into policy. SpaceX above $175.50 into August 4 accelerates the lockup. A hyperscaler naming Vera CPU deployment on a Q2 call confirms share loss has started. A second hardware maker launching a BNPL lease confirms the memory cost is being passed structurally.
The Treasury Secretary just threatened sanctions against Anthropic and OpenAI's biggest competitors, three months before Anthropic goes public. That protects the two American labs but only if the threat becomes real policy. Watch for a specific Chinese company being named. Until that happens, this is words, not action.
Bessent issued a sanctions threat. SpaceX set August 4. Nvidia entered CPU. Apple went subscription.
A Treasury designation before September talks, SpaceX's daily trajectory into August 4, and a hyperscaler naming Vera deployment on Q2 earnings are the three signals that define whether the threat becomes policy, whether the lockup floods or holds, and whether Nvidia's CPU ambition takes real share before Q3.
