THE NUMBER $4.80.United Airlines (UAL) is planning on jet fuel at that price a gallon this quarter. The airline says that is about 45 cents above what analysts assume, and worth about $1 a share. Its outlook sits well below forecasts. Nearly all of its sales growth last quarter came from earning more per seat, not flying more. By its own math, United's weak outlook is mostly a bet on fuel.

IN FOCUS Brent Rose Again a Day After a Mediation Dip. Iran Blockade Bets Gave Back Tuesday's Gains.Brent touched a five-month high near $112 on Tuesday, then settled more than $3 lower. By about 7:25 a.m. Wednesday, Brent was near $110, up about 1%. Iranian media said Tehran told Pakistan's army chief: no talks with Washington until its demands are met. One is an end to the U.S. blockade of Iran's ports. Iran's foreign minister said the Strait of Hormuz would not reopen to everyone without a deal. On Polymarket, a bet that the U.S. declares its blockade over by Oct. 31 fell to 8.5 cents. The year-end bet fell to about 36 cents. By early Wednesday, both were below their prices before Tuesday's reports. British inflation rose to 3.5% in September, with motor fuel up nearly 30% in a year. Transport, led by air fares, gave services prices the biggest push. The statistics office tied that to a sharper drop in fares a year ago. Budgets Run on the Forward Curve United used the Oct. 16 forward curve, and Brent was back above Monday's settlement within a day. So its outlook may stay tied to the curve while talks move only the day's quote. A U.S. reply that takes up Tehran's terms could change that. If jet fuel tops $4.80, United's outlook stops looking cautious.
FROM OUR PARTNERS Buffett, Gates and Bezos Quietly Dumping Stocks—Here's Why
The world's wealthiest individuals are making huge moves with their money. Warren Buffett just liquidated billions of shares. Bill Gates sold 500,000 shares of Microsoft. Jeff Bezos filed to sell Amazon shares worth $4.8 billion. What is going on? One multi-millionaire believes they are preparing for a catastrophic event. But not a crash, bank run, or recession. It’s something we haven’t seen in America for more than a century. For the full story, click here.
SIGNALS IN MOTION SIGNAL 1: Getty's Family and Koch Would Own All of It After a Prepack. Ashtead's Offer Is 81% Above Its Undisturbed Price, 13% Above Its Post-Approach Close.Getty Images started a prepackaged bankruptcy case for some U.S. units on Wednesday. The founding family and a Koch unit would own all of it. They would commit up to $533 million, part of it converted debt. Common holders are set to get nothing. There is no tender offer and no merger vote. Sunday's PMD looked to the filing for a value on the new Getty. Getty's release and case website give none. Ember made a cash offer of 615 pence a share for Ashtead Technology. The board backs it. That is about 81% above the price before the approach became public. From the close just after it did, the premium is about 13%. WHAT RESOLVES THIS Under its deal with creditors, a first court order on the case funding is due within three business days. Common holders can object before the plan is cleared. Ashtead's scheme document is due within 28 days. SIGNAL 2: SpaceX's AI Unit Brought In More Than Half Its Sales. Musk Says a Tesla Deal Has No Terms Yet.SpaceX (SPCX) said its sales rose 161% in the third quarter. Its AI unit brought in more than half. Tuesday's PMD set second-quarter spending against the third-quarter sales analysts expected. Sales beat that estimate. Spending last quarter, about $19.6 billion, still ran ahead. SpaceX plans about twice as much this quarter. On the call, Musk said each firm's board formed a special committee to discuss a possible merger. The members are independent directors. No terms are agreed, he said. A Tesla (TSLA) vote would need half of all its shares, he said, calling that "quite a high hurdle." Neither firm had filed on the committees by early Wednesday. A Polymarket bet that a merger is announced by the end of next year rose as high as 71.5 cents. It held near 68 through the night. By about 7:15 a.m., it was at 65, below where it started. WHAT RESOLVES THIS Tesla reports after the close, and Musk can be asked about the committees on a second call. Watch SpaceX's quarterly filing for how much AI revenue comes from its largest customers. SIGNAL 3: An Australian Property Credit Fund Went From a 1% Limit to a Full Freeze. Arini's $4 Billion Figure Includes Borrowing.MA Financial halted all money in and out of a real estate credit fund. In August, it had capped withdrawals at 1% of assets a month. It cited a weaker home market that is slowing sales and repayments. The halt is reported to last until at least the end of March. The firm says its corporate and asset-backed lending books are performing. Arini announced the final close of its first direct lending fund on Wednesday. It aims to lend more than $4 billion, a total that counts borrowed money. It did not say how much its backers pledged. WHAT RESOLVES THIS A second manager in that market freezing a fund would mean the strain has spread past one firm. Blue Owl reports Oct. 29.

THE CROSSOVER Private Market Trends Driving Public Market MovesA headline sets the price for a day. The fine print sets who pays. Tuesday's reports of a peace plan moved oil for a session. Tehran's stated terms and United's fuel price held longer. Getty's common holders and MA Financial's fund holders face terms they did not write.
