Blackstone reports Thursday. A big Blue Owl credit fund pays out about 30% of its exit requests Oct. 30. Volta's AI loan has yet to trade.

MARKET PULSE

Last week, lenders set their terms.

Volta's AI loan sold at 95 cents. Some CoreWeave notes yielded above 16%. Ramp raised money at up to 30 times its sales.

The data calendar now goes quiet. The Fed's quiet period started Saturday, ahead of its Oct. 27-28 meeting. October consumer prices are not due until Nov. 10. The 10-year yield closed Thursday at 5.10%.

So the next prices come from the firms that raise and lend private money. Blackstone (BX) reports Thursday. Blue Owl (OWL) and Ares (ARES) follow Oct. 29. Apollo (APO) reports Nov. 3, and KKR (KKR) holds its call Nov. 9.

Other prices have no date. Volta's loan has not started trading. SpaceX, Broadcom and Firmus are still raising. Getty has not filed its bankruptcy case.

Below are the six places capital needs to be priced next. Each is marked scheduled or open-ended. All times are Eastern.

PREMIER FEATURE

Investing In The Titans of AI

Carnegie didn't invent steel. He used new technology to produce it cheaper and faster than anyone on Earth.

Rockefeller didn't discover oil. He used industrial machinery to refine it more efficiently.

Vanderbilt didn't build the railroad. He understood that whoever controlled the infrastructure controlled the economy.

Their combined fortunes were between $700 billion and $1 trillion.

Best-selling financial author Alexander Green has identified three companies positioned to be the Titans of the AI age.

QUESTION 1

Blackstone Reports Thursday. Is the Exit Door Opening? (Scheduled)

Blackstone (BX) holds its third-quarter call Thursday at 9 a.m. It sat inside last week's story. Its AirTrunk put off a $1.5 billion Singapore listing until next year. Blackstone affiliates signed the written consent that approved Bumble's sale.

Exits are the variable that matters. Buyout funds are paying out about 12% of their starting value, Moody's says, using PitchBook data. In 2022, they paid out more than 30%. When listings stall, owners hold longer or sell privately, often at a price one buyer sets.

What to Watch

Listen for how Blackstone plans to sell assets while listings stay shut. Steady exits would let funds return cash and raise again. Slow ones would put more weight on continuation funds and private sales, where the price is harder to check.

QUESTION 2

A Big Credit Fund Pays Its Exit Line Oct. 30. How Long Is the Line? (Scheduled)

Blue Owl Credit Income Corp. expects to pay its third-quarter repurchases Oct. 30. It plans to fill about 30% of its $3.1 billion of requests. Cox Capital bid $7.31 a share for some of its stock, 20% under the fund's stated $9.14. Cox's open bids expire Nov. 3, Nov. 14 and Nov. 25.

That same day, Apollo (APO) starts publishing loan-by-loan marks across its credit business. Apollo says they are "not a market-clearing price."

The wider line is shrinking slowly. Requests at the 15 non-traded BDCs Fitch tracks averaged 9.8% of shares last quarter. Nine funds drew more than their 5% caps. An executive at Blue Owl (OWL) said this week that requests at its credit funds are falling.

What to Watch

Calls from Blue Owl and Ares (ARES) on Oct. 29 come first. Then watch fourth-quarter requests. A drop toward 5% would mean the line is clearing. Heavy sales into Cox's discount would show how much holders pay to leave now. If Apollo's marks track public loan prices, holders gain a closer reference point.

QUESTION 3

Where Will Volta's Loan Trade? (Open-ended)

No date is set. Volta's $5 billion loan priced at 95 cents, 6.5 points over the benchmark rate. JPMorgan (JPM) and Goldman Sachs (GS) underwrote only the $1.3 billion lease piece. They would not commit to the $3.7 billion backed by about 36,000 chips from Nvidia (NVDA). Big loan funds objected, reports said.

The next AI borrowers are lining up. Earlier this month, SpaceX (SPCX) was seeking about $40 billion for Nvidia chips, with Apollo expected to lead, people familiar said. Broadcom (AVGO) is working on more than $50 billion tied to its OpenAI chip. Firmus is in talks to raise $2 billion to $3 billion privately after pulling its IPO.

The arranging banks, loan buyers and Nvidia-backed builders are all exposed. So is CoreWeave (CRWV), which hit a 52-week low of $59.51 Thursday.

What to Watch

A price above 95 once Volta trades would say buyers were paid enough. A drop below it would push the next chip-backed loan wider. Signed terms for SpaceX or Broadcom would put a number on the same bet. So would a Firmus round, priced against its August mark.

QUESTION 4

Will Banks Keep Writing Buyout Loans? (Scheduled and Open-ended)

Direct lenders raised 35% more this year and lent 28% less last quarter. Banks took the business. Several tests come due.

In Italy, Tata Motors' Iveco offer closes Oct. 26. Holders voted Friday to lower its acceptance bar to 80%. As of Oct. 9, only 28.4% of shares were tendered, and three funds hold about 20.4%. Separately, INWIT's two biggest owners are lining up bank loans to buy the roughly 29% they do not own.

In the U.S., banks committed debt to two buyouts. CCC (CCC) agreed to a $7.75-a-share deal with GTCR and Elliott. Penske Automotive (PAG)'s controlling owners will pay $212 a share. Penske's deal needs most votes cast by holders not tied to the buyers. Neither vote has a date yet.

What to Watch

A formal INWIT offer would show how big a premium the bank loans must cover. CCC trading above its $7.75 offer would point to hopes for more. If banks keep winning these deals, direct lenders hold more cash than loans. That could tempt them to loosen terms to win deals back.

QUESTION 5

The Fed Meets Oct. 27-28. What Will Floating-Rate Money Cost? (Scheduled)

Many private loans float over a short-term benchmark. Loans in non-traded BDCs paid about 8.5% on average, Fed staff found. A hike would lift those coupons directly.

Traders now doubt one is coming. Kalshi's October hike contract traded at 14 cents early Friday. It hit 55 cents after Wednesday's price report. Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack still warned that if an "inflationary mindset" takes hold, the Fed "might need to move even more."

Long rates have their own dates. Britain's budget lands Oct. 28. The Treasury sets its next quarter of bond sales Nov. 4. Long yields feed buyout math through exit values and refinancing costs.

What to Watch

A hold with a hawkish tone would keep floating coupons where they are. A surprise hike would hit borrowers whose loans already price wide, like Volta. A heavier bond-sale plan Nov. 4 could push long yields back up after last week's rally.

QUESTION 6

Private Marks Meet Their First Tests (Scheduled and Open-ended)

Anduril's staff share sale closes Nov. 9. The price, $94.80 a share, values it at about $90 billion. That is about 48% above its May round. Sales are capped at about $1.3 billion, and the buyers are not named.

Strive (ASST)'s new preferred settles Tuesday. Buyers paid $90 for each $100 of stated value, a yield near 16.7%. Its first dividend is due Nov. 9.

Two prices have no date. Getty Images (GETY) plans to seek creditor approval in the coming days, then file a prepackaged bankruptcy in the coming weeks. Its common stock gets nothing. Character.AI's court sale still needs a bid deadline. Disney (DIS)'s $20 million is the floor.

What to Watch

How much of Anduril's cap gets used will show how many staff want out at $90 billion. Where Strive's preferred trades against $90 will show demand for high-yield bitcoin money. Getty's filing should show what the new company is worth. A rival Character.AI bid would show whether anyone values the platform above Disney's floor.
